Project Description

In order to tackle the danger of an impending undersupply of journalistic services, copyright law is to be extended to journalistic services on the internet. In particular, this involves protecting the content of so-called "snippets" (text previews). The aim of such regulation is to compensate media companies and media professionals for the linking of their content by the major online platforms.

On behalf of the IPI, Swiss Economics conducted an in-depth regulatory impact assessment (RIA) on the economic effects of such regulation. As part of the RIA, Swiss Economics examined the necessity and possibility of government action, the effects on individual social groups and the economy as a whole, alternative regulations and the appropriateness of enforcement.
