Project description

The use of copyright-protected works by AI systems gives rise to legal and economic uncertainties. Copyright holders may find their works used without permission or remuneration, whilst AI developers and users rely on a workable legal framework that does not unnecessarily hinder innovation. Against this background, various regulatory options are to be examined.

Swiss Economics has prepared a regulatory impact assessment (RIA) on possible regulatory options for the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property (IGE). The assessment analyses the impacts on all relevant stakeholders, such as creative professionals, rights holders, AI providers, and private and commercial users.
