Space Economics
The space industry is rapidly evolving from a state-dominated high-tech sector to a dynamic commercial ecosystem. New players, technological innovations and data-based business models are fundamentally changing the space sector–with far-reaching effects on communication, navigation, earth observation, security and the development of raw materials. We support companies and authorities in positioning themselves in this complex environment and in recognizing and seizing commercial opportunities.
- Regulation and market structure. The increasing commercialization of space raises new questions regarding property rights, frequency allocation, orbital infrastructure and competition. We analyze regulatory frameworks and help develop viable, economically sound regulations.
- Infrastructure Investments and Business Models. The construction and operation of satellite constellations, launch services or ground stations requires enormous investments. We analyze risks and evaluate financing models, taking into account public-private partnerships (PPP) and international funding instruments.
- Economic evaluation of space services. Earth observation data, satellite communication and applications based on the global navigation satellite system (GNSS) create economic added value in areas such as agriculture, disaster control or logistics. We quantify the economic benefits of space-based services and evaluate scalability and network effects.
